Trump’s China Trade “Deal” Off to a Rocky Start | US China Trade War

The US and China have agreed on a trade deal. But they seem to understand their “deal”
in conflicting ways. And the ideological differences run deep. Welcome back to China Uncensored. I’m Chris Chappell. This episode has been sponsored by Surfshark. Because when you surf the web, you should be using a VPN to protect your
identity. America’s trade war with China continues. But President Trump announced this month both
countries have agreed on at least a temporary trade
deal. As Trump wrote on his favorite platform, “The deal I just made with China is, by
far, the greatest and biggest deal ever made for our Great Patriot Farmers in the history
of our Country. In fact, there is a question as to whether
or not this much product can be produced? Our farmers will figure it out. Thank you China!” Now I know what you’re thinking: “Wow! That sounds like the greatest and biggest
deal ever made in the history of our country!” So here’s what this great deal actually
says… Um, wait, it doesn’t say anything. Shelley, why are these notes blank? What’s that? Nothing was actually written down. Apparently, what happened is that on October
11, President Trump met with China’s Vice Premier
Liu He. Then Trump announced they had made “Phase One” of a trade deal. But it was more of a handshake deal than a written-down sort of deal. And like many handshake deals, each side remembers it a little differently. From Trump’s perspective, “China will buy as much as $50 billion in
U.S. agricultural goods in exchange for the suspension of additional
tariffs.” Specifically, Trump has delayed the tariff
increase that was originally going to go into effect
on October 15— on $250 billion dollars of Chinese goods. But Trump has not reduced any existing tariffs or stopped future tariffs. But from China’s perspective coming out
of that handshake, they still want more talks, and would need *existing* tariffs rolled back in order to reach that 50 billion worth of
agricultural imports. And instead of this month’s handshake being phase one of the trade deal, China’s Vice Premier said the meeting merely “laid an important foundation for a phase
one agreement.” So where does that leave the US and China? It’s like Star Wars: The Last Jedi. It’s still unresolved, and overall you’re just left feeling disappointed. And will Rey and Kylo Ren fall in love or forever remain mortal enemies? Well, you won’t have to wait much longer
to find out. In both cases. As for the trade deal, we may get the next episode as soon as mid-November. That’s when President Trump and Chinese
leader Xi Jinping will meet at the APEC forum in Chile. Presumably after another one of those super awkward world-leader family photos. Everyone loves those. Especially Putin. So if Trump and Xi still need to meet in November to make the phase one deal, does that mean that October’s meeting was
a wash? This is what US Commerce Secretary Wilbur
Ross told FOX News. “I think we’re in a better place. And remember, for a while, there was no talk. It was broken off. Now they’re back at the table. Clearly they want to make a deal. We would like to make a deal. But from our point of view, it has to be the right deal. And it doesn’t have to be in November. It’s more critical that it be a proper deal than exactly when it occurs.” So what would a “proper deal” involve? Well, phase one—the written kind, not just the handshake kind— could reduce upcoming US tariffs, in exchange for China’s promise to buy those American agricultural goods. That’s important to Trump, because making American farmers happy makes it easier for him to win the 2020 presidential
election. And China, for its part, wants to have a deal,
too. US tariffs over the last year-plus have hurt the Chinese economy pretty hard. Last quarter, China’s official statistics reported the lowest GDP growth in 27 years. Of course, everyone knows that they fudge
the GDP numbers, but the fact that they let the *official*
number go that low is a sign of a weakening economy. And a weak economy threatens Xi Jinping’s
grip on power. So that, along with Trump seeking re-election, means both sides want a phase one deal and the political brownie points that follow. But a phase one deal like this won’t solve the fundamental trade problem. The Chinese regime has been cheating on trade for two decades— from intellectual property theft, to forced technology transfers, to illegal subsidies. And they continue to cheat. A final trade deal would need to resolve all
these things. Maybe that’s phase two. Maybe that’s phase seven. Maybe that’s phase never. But whenever it happens, it can’t just be a pinky-swear promise. “The most important is enforcement. Because their record hasn’t been that great
on enforcement, so we need to have a real enforcement mechanism.” “‘Not great’ is like an understatement,
right? I mean the Chinese break promises all over
town. They break promises with the WTO. They broke promises with the US. How are you going to get that enforcement
in there, and get the Chinese to follow it?” “Well if they don’t, we really don’t have much of an arrangement.” No, you really don’t. Which is why even if Trump and Xi sign something
in November, it won’t actually end the longstanding trade
tensions between the US and China. Those tensions come down to more than just trade and enforcement of WTO rules. There are deep ideological differences between the US government, and the Chinese Communist Party. The Chinese Communist Party insists on controlling all private enterprise. This article in the state-run People’s Daily
last week says that private companies must strengthen the work of Party-building. It says that nearly 1.6 million private companies
inside China already have Communist Party branches within
their structures, and the rest should follow their example. That’s exactly the opposite of what the
US wants. The US wants private companies to be, in fact,
private, and not controlled by the whims of the Communist
Party. Unless, of course, it means the Communist Party can force private
companies to buy $50 billion dollars in US agricultural
products. But let’s conveniently ignore that little
irony. And anyway, the ideological differences run
deeper. Because the US and China are competing for
geopolitical power— a.k.a. world domination. China pledges billions of dollars to Africa… The US pledges billions of dollars to Africa. China pushes its companies to dominate 5G wireless communications… The US pushes its own companies to dominate
5G. China wants to build an airport in Greenland… The US wants to…buy Greenland. So it’s unclear if any trade deal can really solve these deep differences. And no matter what gets signed in November, it can only be phase one of a much bigger
battle. And this episode has been sponsored by Surfshark. When you go online, everything you do is being tracked and logged— by the websites you visit and your internet

100 thoughts on “Trump’s China Trade “Deal” Off to a Rocky Start | US China Trade War

  1. Chris….Netflix is littered with Chinese shows now. Also how much land do they now own in the southeast USA and out on the left coast?

  2. At the 6:00 mark, "There are deep ideological differences between the US government and the CCP" –well Chris I think you should dig a little deeper into the Capital Hill roster over the past 20 years and what policies/bills have been submitted. I'd like to think that would be the truth but in the wake of many career politicians I am more inclined to believe some have been willing to sell US out for their own profits. How else do you explain China owning so much US land?

  3. Decouple. Bring the US manufactures home or at least out of China. Don't let the China products into the US. Hard but necessary.

  4. I love your show and everything! Do you fear they will take and torture you? If they do please be sarcastic like dead pool was when they torture you. Please….

  5. You are feeding this old news after it happened for 20+ days? Cheep.
Btw, they are working it out on the paper, which was stated to the public on the very day they closed the talk. Be informed on time. Stupid.

  6. The CCP is a total waste of time and energy. Let's fight the war that China can't afford to fight; the one that their military doesn't want to fight, so that we don't have to deal with those parasites for the next couple centuries. Asia and Africa can be autonomous nation-states without the China virus and America can keep our money and technology here.

  7. Nah… Trump was very wrong. The greatest deals US had with China were the 1844 Treaty of Wanghia (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Wanghia ) and 1901 Boxer Protocol (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxer_Protocol ). His predecessors performed way better than him in clinching these deals.

  9. China is winning all the way to the bank. While USA is just printing money. USA getting free ride because of reserve currency status. Look at the education levels in china vs USA. China far more intelligent. Our President said one should nuke the hurricane. That tells you how stupid our leaders our. How will this person with such low intelligence understand global warming.

  10. ProTip: Trump DOESN'T want a deal…his goal: shattering the supply chain that keeps the Chicom's economy afloat.
China could have had a deal a year ago, but chose to act like they always do… pretend the deal wasn't a deal. They WILL learn that shafting Trump on any deal will lead to very bad things happening.
And yes, the Chicoms DO see the edge of the cliff that Trump is steadily pushing them towards. Their gamble: A) Trump loses the 2020 election; failing that, B) They can survive 2 Trump terms; and C) Trump won't give them that final push…yeah, good luck with that Emperor Xi.

  11. No matter how much you whine and gripe china is winning. So you might as well shut up because you cant do anything about it.

  12. AT SOME point CCP must be able to grasp the intrinsic differences between corporations and a government controlled society run by those who have never ever managed any corporate enterprise and who have
no clue as to managing people and setting priorities and showing profits … and why it is doomed to failure
before the death of XI Jinping.. doubtful it will ever experience the appreciation and potential profits
by successful corporations who will ever contribute anything to CCP ???

  13. Until the freedom and security of Taiwan and Hong Kong are secured we can have no trade deal with China.
World domination will not be allowed for China

  14. Screw China I never buy anything from them all they make is garbage
I buy quality products I know will last or are of durable quality

  15. China leaders are a bunch of lairs and trump knows it. They will break it. Trump should have went threw with more tariffs. No foundation all bs cant you see it running out chinas butt holes. Trump put presure on these lairs.

  16. No deal unless China put their signature on the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Bill unanimously passed by the USA congress.

  17. Great Job, I really enjoyed it!, See this New Album 'Monish Jasbird – Death Blow', channel link www.youtube.com/channel/UCv_x5rlxirO-WKjLIyk6okQ?sub_confirmation=1 , you may like it 🙂

  18. China’s pig stock has been spoiled by the swine virus. Trump should of closed the pig store on China and allow them to starve to death. Use the pigs and feed as leverage instead of giving them the food they desperately need. Wrong move Trump. There’s no other country that can supply so much pigs and feed like the US and at Costco prices.

  19. China control Trump mind By saying that they already buy US company so Trump senction to China also US company will poor but I think they lie .CCP can control China company from US ?Surfshark vpm make my device damage!!!

  20. Even if a favourable deal could be met, what makes the US think China can be trusted? Look at how the freedoms and promises of autonomy eroded by Chinese pressure due to "reinterpretations" of the sino British joint declaration to "better fit Chinese interpretation". They'll squirrel whatever they can by reinterpretating the document until it loses all meaning

  21. Be aware Mr. Trump…Don't chicken out…Were giving follow up to all yours movements…THE BEST DEFENSE IS A HEAVY "CHAAARGE" …KEEP GOING …WERE ALL BEHIND YOU…

  22. Don’t ever trust communist China what ever they say don’t mean they will do they’re two faces, They can stab your back anytime, their words don’t mean anything Watch out !!!!!!!

  23. US HAS NO SAYING OVER THE INTERNAL AFFAIRS OF CHINA!!! YOU DO NOT CALL THE SHOTS IN CHINA OR DECIDE OVER THEIR COMPANIES!!! YOU SHOULD STAY THE FUCK OUT AND MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!!

  24. Lenovo is a Chinese company. I work with them and they are horrible. Dealing with any Chinese communist government/business is a lot of headaches.

  25. China has saved so much money from having president Trump delay tariff. Even one month, it saves China hundred of billion of dollars.

  26. where will be no tread deal China own nothing to the US so tariffs are useless so Trump is just taxing the US consumers for.I don't think this guy knows how to run the country.

  27. Indonesia winner pribumi muslims oposisi ameridan and eropans and austalian political in indonesia good murning indonesia menang and good by regims jokowi agent kolonial terorist kommonist chinese froms tiongkok

  28. Why would anyone think different? He's dealing with a corrupt left wing ideology. They're frikin commies. They will eventually collapse but for now we'll just wait.

  29. It means that China will not deal with u lol and you will bend over because your farmers are fucked and the tax payer in holding them up like your car inductry lol.

  30. Ha. It’s like the high school jock Bubba trying to compete in decathlon with a Chinese nerd. Who do you think think is goi g to win? Duh! Chinese can hold out for a least another decade, Bubba will be done in next November for sure if deal is not reached.

  31. A rocky start are you kidding me did it not start say over a year ago. 45 is a lier China can't trust anything he says. Besides America is paying for the tariffs. They don't need America, they have moved on to deal with Russia, Canada Australia and anyother country that would like to work with them…oh yeah you know that comment that America has ties with Italy has for thousands of years, America is less than 500 years old so its pretty funny to listen to him

  32. Please DON'T EVER TRUST THE LYING AND STEALING CCP. Two girls were raped and killed after in GZ , but the CCP just pretend it did not happen and didn't think of warning the people because the PARTY comes first NOT people. How safe did you say china was. Where are the stupid chinese trolls. I want to hear from you sick pathetic people.

  33. I love Trump but he being played like a broken banjo without strings….. out in the boonies, on a river bamboo raft without a paddle. He still doesn't understand the depth of Chinese deception.

  34. The president of China has too much pride to be the one to make the handshake with Trump, given as the temporary agreement can be taken as the CCP buckling on the knees a bit. Guess its becoming obvious that US is winning the trade war.

  35. Trump is a pussy because he talks about this trade war for 2 years. What Trump should do as Steve Bannon said, decouple USA from CCP and CCP will collapse within a year. Then, the US will deal with a democratic China. Challenge Trump, be a President that Liberated China.

  36. China Uncensored, could you do a story that delves into the background of Liu He because to me he looks like Beijing's town drunk sent by Xi to just stall and wait things out.

  37. Keep in mind that the farmers are being compensated with the tariffs that are being collected. So the US farmers are not really being hurt.

  38. this would not have needed to happen except for billy the willy and the democant communist who gave him great kudos after NAFTA and WTO and all the greedy democant owned companies that moved to china ND ALL THE American TECH THAT WAS GIVEN TO COMMUNIST CHINA THEIR MASTERS

  39. Donald duck needs to pull his head out of his ass to see, that nobody give a fuck about rulers anymore. Nobody wants to deal with printed notes anymore, china can do 1000 times better without USA!!! Us dollar has no value…

Once u let them into ur country or urself in their country.. They have ur balls in their hands … Its checkmate for sure.. CCP MUST be destroyed if u wanna do business in China.
