Mr. Robot 1.51exfiltrati0n.ipa the game

Mr. Robot is a critically acclaimed TV show
with a healthy dose of tech-driven paranoia, so it’s probably appropriate there was a
little bit of mystery about a new Mr Robot app that came out this week. The app’s official name is 1.51exfiltrati0n.ipa,
which borrows the crazy naming scheme of Mr. Robot’s episodes. At first glance, it looks like a messaging
app created by E Corp, a fictional company from the show. Actually, it’s a game developed by Night
School Studio and published by Telltale Games, the company behind popular Walking Dead and
Game of Thrones tie-in adventure games. The premise of the game is that you’ve found
a smartphone on the ground outside the Fun Society Arcade at Coney Island, which is the
meeting place for the show’s hacking group, fsociety. Turns out, the phone belongs to Darlene, a
black hat hacker who’s about to attempt something really big. You play the game by texting different E-Corp
employees and different characters from the show. That’s right, it’s basically texting as
a video game — or maybe you can think of it as a Choose Your Own Adventure. Either way, it’s a lower risk way to live
in the world of Mr Robot without actually having to become a crazy hacker yourself. The Mr Robot app is available for both iOS
and Android. It costs $2.99 up front, with no in-app purchases.
