Innovative Retail: Disrupting the Retail Industry


Really great retailers now
are stepping back and saying, “Okay, how can we completely reinvent this?” And I think great
retailers now understand that if they don’t do that,
someone else is going to, and it’s probably not going to be someone
from within their own category. I mean, if you look around at
the disruptors right now, in various categories,
oftentimes they’re not incumbents. And they’re not even from within the category themselves,
you know. I look at brands like Warby Parker that’s disrupting
the optical market. I look at Air BnB that’s, you know, taking apart the hospitality industry
one piece at a time. Tesla reinventing
the automobile market. And so the list goes. None of these people came
from inside their categories.
