I am sure you had your days when you feel like you would hit a rock wall. The CRC has plenty of resources and activities
that will help you with your academic relationships and
also teach you persistence when faced
with adversity. Today, I talked to General Ron Johnson,
and he shared how he used persistence to get him to
where he is today. Coming to Georgia Tech, in a metro campus, it’s more metro today than it was in 1983, but there are always distractions
when you are young and you lack experience. And when you have the distractions,
you have to really find the discipline within yourself to stay focused
on what it’s you’re trying to achieve. And that way, overcoming that
adversity or temptation and having persistence is really key. Exercise really allows me to sort of maintain stress, maintain a level of physical fitness,
that I really don’t have to maintain. But, I honestly believe my ability to stay awake, get things done,
not fall asleep in long meetings, really has a lot to do with my level
of physical fitness. I just feel better, I have more energy. And I also think it sort of shapes for me,
how I go about doing what I do. When my students don’t turn in their homework or aren’t performing well,
I don’t just grade ’em and let it go. I’ll send them an email and say
“Come see me, we need to talk.” Because I know that all the students
here are quite talented and capable of succeeding. And when they’re not there has to
be a reason and we need to talk about it. So come here, do your best, find ways
to relieve your stress. One way you relieve your stress,
of course, is by being prepared. If you fail to prepare, then you
prepare to fail. And all of our students here at Georgia Tech
are competing on a world class team. And all you have to do is do your best. You’re amongst those world class students,
just give it your best and you’ll be successful. General Johnson also noted that students here
need to use their resources wisely. Don’t hesitate to contact your professors
if you’re in need. Also, some encouraging words for you all is to be positive, be prepared, and be persistent. Till’ the End of the Day – The Verbs ♪♪ Baby, I feel good ♪♪ ♪♪♪♪ ♪♪ from the moment I rise♪♪ ♪♪♪♪ ♪♪ I feel good from morning ♪♪ ♪♪ till the end of the day. ♪♪ ♪♪♪♪
