Apple announces the iMac Pro and upgrades to the iMac

Today Apple unveiled what they are calling
a ‘teaser’ of the new iMac Pro. And it looks pretty badass. With a 5k display, it will be the most powerful
Mac ever made. Available in a sleek space grey, this machine
is a beast. The wallet-busting all-in-one workstation,
has more or less the same look and feel as the 27-inch but you get an Intel Xeon processor
and, depending on how much you love cores, you get 8, 10, or 18 of them. With dual fans to generate more airflow, it’s
designed to be faster, stronger and more visually accurate than previous iMacs. The GPU is a
Radeon Vega setup with up to 16 GB of VRAM. All this means Apple’s new iMacs Pros are
now powerful enough to support an even create VR. Aimed at machine learning, movies, gaming,
and other creative professionals, Apple wanted an all-in-one powerful enough to build immersive
experiences. Also as a nod to the professionals who love
Macs but need there ports, there a SDXC port, 4 USB 3 ports, 4 Lightning ports, Ethernet,
and — what looks like a headphone jack! The new iMac Pro is slated for a December
release and will cost $4999. If you don’t have that kind of cash…Apple
also refreshed the original iMac making it compelling for developers. All of the models will be getting new GPUs. The 5K model will be able to push up to 5.5
teraflops. Outside of graphics, Apple is also refreshing
the screen, making it 43% brighter than the previous generation. The 21.5-inch model will also now support
up to 32GB of RAM, and the 27-inch model will support 64GB of RAM. Fusion Drive is coming to all 27-inch models,
and the entire lineup will will get 7th Generation Intel Core “Kaby Lake” chips. Oculus once said that they don’t support
Macs because they aren’t powerful enough to run a VR rig. Not anymore….
